Thanks A Lot
I am, single-handedly, attempting to bring my generation, kicking and screaming if necessary, into the era where we, like kind, thoughtful people, send thank you notes. This is not simply because I feel like it would make the world a better place (it would.) but because I really like writing them. I like writing them because it makes me feel very civilized, almost proper, and like a nice person.
What do you say, however, when you get towels? I love the towels (I picked them out!). I love that Paula and Howie* were so thoughtful as to give them to us so early. I very enthusiastically hugged them both and thanked them when I opened them. I was happy-bride-getting-new-towels. But what can I say? As perfect as they are, (new! with unfrayed edges! nice chocolately brown! fluffy and oversized!) they are still just TOWELS, and in thank you notes, you're supposed to mention the gift (i.e.: Thank you for the vase) and how it will be used (i.e.: I'm looking forward to putting roses from my garden in it!) What should I say: "I'm looking forward to drying off with these!" In that case, I hope no one buys me sheets!
Ideas? Anyone?
